It is during one of our most important hiking expeditions on the Chemin de St-Rémi in May 2014 that we were inspired.
We found that healthy alternatives in several regions throughout the province of Quebec were insufficient and did not offer properly balanced nutrients. It was often difficult for us during our 925 km expedition between Magog and the Gaspe area to find a sustaining snack.
We had already explored the possibilities with our raw Balanced Snack Bites which were not dehydrated, and had found the preservation aspect to be less than ideal.
Immediately upon our return, we entered our test kitchen and created a healthy snack that could stay fresh without refrigeration, meaning that it could be brought on all our expeditions.
Since then, we never leave home without our Les Rémis – Vegetable Bites, a tribute to the proud builders of the Chemin St-Rémi.
Eating adequate proportions of each macronutrient enables healthy habits: the secret of physical well-being, filled with energy and protected from all sorts of illnesses, is largely founded on healthy eating habits. Without them, our body is fragile and ages prematurely, not to mention that unbalanced eating habits can affect our digestive system and our entire organism by preventing it from properly filling its crucial roles. Also, eating disorders, indigestion, stomach pains, liver diseases, cardio-vascular diseases and all kinds of illnesses affecting our organism can result from poor, unbalanced or excessive nourishment.
Take the example of carbohydrates. Did you know that an excess of carbohydrates (sugars) in your blood can create a hormonal unbalance (measured through a sharp increase in insulin), which in turn results in the storage of glucose in form of fats (obesity). One of insulin’s roles is to bring back the blood sugar levels to normal. Through these excesses, we ask of our body an additional effort, which means it has to work overtime, losing precious energy in the process. Channel these efforts towards something you truly deserve! Be healthy, and that starts through well-balanced snacks.
If you already have enough fatty reserves in your body, take a minute and ask yourself “Why would I eat more carbohydrates?”
